Want to end your SportCity membership? Gym subscriptions are known for being hard to cancel: strict deadlines, cancellation only via a form, and a membership that quietly renews while the direct debits continue — even if you have not trained for months.

What notice period applies at SportCity?
SportCity works with fixed-term contracts (for example 12 months) and flexible, monthly cancellable memberships. Fixed-term contracts are cheaper per period, but you are tied in for the full term. Also note that the price is charged per 4 weeks, not per calendar month: 13 payments a year instead of 12.
When a fixed-term contract ends, it continues automatically for an indefinite period. From that moment Dutch law (the Wet van Dam) applies: you can cancel at any time, with a notice period of no more than one month. Still within the fixed term? Then your membership ends on the earliest possible end date.
Leaving the Netherlands?
SportCity is a Dutch chain, so if you are moving abroad there will be no club near your new address — early cancellation on moving grounds is then usually possible, also within a fixed-term contract. Add proof to your cancellation, such as your deregistration from the municipality or your new address.
Cancel in writing before you leave, and keep the proof of receipt. Sorting it out from abroad is a lot more work.
Careful: blocking the direct debit is not cancelling
Withdrawing your payment authorisation or reversing a direct debit does not end your membership. The instalments keep being charged, and unpaid amounts may be passed to a debt collection agency. The only way to really get out is a provable cancellation.
That is why we send your cancellation registered, and you receive confirmation of receipt. You can always show when you cancelled — even if the gym claims to know nothing about it.
How to cancel SportCity via Opzeggen.nl
Step 1. Fill in your details: name, address and your membership number (on your invoice or in the app).
Step 2. Tell us the date you want to cancel from. Not sure? We cancel from the earliest possible date.
Step 3. Select any other subscriptions you want to end at the same time.
Step 4. We send the cancellation registered, and you receive the proof of receipt by email.
No front-desk conversation offering you a pause option or a discount. You simply cancel.
What is the notice period at SportCity?
After a fixed-term contract ends, your membership continues for an indefinite period. Under the Wet van Dam you can then cancel at any time, with a notice period of no more than one month. Still within the fixed term? Then your membership ends on the earliest possible end date.
Can I cancel a fixed-term contract early?
Usually only in special circumstances, such as moving somewhere without a club nearby — which includes moving abroad — or for medical reasons. Include supporting documents in that case. Otherwise, cancel per the end of the contract period so it does not renew automatically.
Does blocking the direct debit help?
No. Withdrawing your authorisation does not end your membership: the instalments keep being charged and unpaid amounts may be passed to a debt collection agency. Cancel provably instead — we send your cancellation registered, so you have proof of receipt.
Can I cancel SportCity if I leave the Netherlands?
Yes — SportCity only has clubs in the Netherlands, so a move abroad usually qualifies for early cancellation. Add proof of your move, cancel in writing before you leave, and keep the proof of receipt.
Can I cancel several subscriptions at once?
Yes. In the same flow you can also end other subscriptions, such as a streaming service, a magazine or a charity donation. You sign once and we send each cancellation separately — always registered.
